My research

My work concentrates on the ecology of urban forests. Especially, I have studied the effects of forest edges and trampling on urban forest understory vegetation and trees. Both of these factors modify vegetation composition and forest structure in cities. One of the notable changes in urban forests is an increase in the abundance of rowan (Sorbus aucuparia L.) saplings. Thus, my current research interests concern rowan, its ecology and possible new managing methods to restrict its excessive growth in urban forests. Furthermore, biodiversity research in urban forests is important as the value of these forests in terms of biodiversity is not fully understood.
